Communicating to Teach or Teaching how to Communicate?

Both are valid!!!...
In the Communicative Language Teaching approach, communication is the basis.
It is quite important because language is presented in a real context and this suggests that there should be a variety of linguistics forms by taking into a account the intentions of the speaker.
As it is based on communication, is necessary to give our students oportunities to express their feelings, emotions, opinions and ideas.

We as teachers, should prepare situations in which our students can feel identified and can have the opportunity to communicate.
This approach is really important although may be complicated to have a 100% communicative class.

What about the Methods we have discussed?

As I expected in this methodology class we have spoken about how to teach English.

We agree on the fact that teaching a language is not easy and as teachers we should know most of the theories related to this field.
There are several methods and approaches for teaching a language.
This is a personal decision wether a teacher prefers one approach rather than another, but the important thing is that this decision is going to affect the student's learning process.
There are some characteristics of these methods and approaches that really called my attention.
I'm going to mention some of them:

The Audiolingual Method:
One of the characteristics of this method is that the cultural aspects of the second language (L2) are taken into account. In my opinion, this is a very important aspect, so, students are able to recognize differences and similarities between their L1 and the L2.

The Communicative Language Learning:
In my opinion this is the most accurate method for teaching a language because Communication is an inhate necesity for human beings.

The Total Physical Response:
Body language goes hand by hand with spoken language, so it is relevant to apply some of this in a language class.

The Community Language Learning:
This method really call my attention, it includes some aspects that are important while teaching, for example: as the method before, language with communicative purpose; the focus on near-native mastery, promotion of students interaction, negotiation of syllabus and the conception of learning as a whole-person process.

In conclusion, teaching and learning are processes that imply more than one method.
It depends on the teacher's goal, the student's motivation, the environment, among others.
In my opinion, classes should be prepared with different activies applying different methods and approaches, so all needs could be covered.

Expectations!...

MELT... "Methodology for Teaching English as a Foreign Language".

I've been teaching English since I started the career but I was not taught how to do it, so It was very complicated for me...

I've dealt with students of almost all ages but I know I'm not prepared... I realized I can teach all of them neither the same way nor the same topics.

This subject, I hope, will lead me into discovering this teaching process.
I'll try to give my best because I'm quite interested on learning how to transfer what I've learnt!...
